Thanks Shiner! Realized minutes after I posted my error and that it's in the dropdowns. Wewps!!

If we added Eolis password % (Big 20's got this as the challenge this year)... I'd probably return to running this again. :)

A lot can change in a year it seems. ;)

Nice job as always Bogledowdee! I really need to return to this game!

Yep the weird streaks and take a look at the power unit map, the lines are all misaligned / jagged everywhere. Only the MiSTer core has these bugs, beetle saturn/mednafen do not to my knowledge.

Yeah I'd agree that it shouldn't be allowed in any % since it appears to be a cheat code of sorts, but a separate category sounds fun!

"Fax-an-adoo" is correct! The Domain has spoken as well. ;)

Sounds good to me!

How about the core on the MiSTer?

Use a program like Blackhole to set up an aggregate, which will allow you to record the sound coming from the Mac without having to resort to low-quality "mic dubbing" as suggested above. I have a Mac, use Mac OBS, use Blackhole, and it works like a charm.

Hey everyone! Just wanted to let you know that I've decided to give speedrunning a shot - and what better game to enter speedrun.com with than my favorite guilty pleasure, Virtual Hydlide for the Sega Saturn - the greatest action-RPG of all-time? ;)

I say I'm new to speedrunning "sort-of", because I speedran Shining Wisdom for Saturn back in 1996 when Working Designs ran a contest for the fastest time (but it wasn't called speedrunning back then). I didn't win the grand prize, but my time did place top 100 and I got a cool poster! A few months later, I founded Zophar's Domain which took up the majority of my time and I never attempted to run any more games... until now.

In any case, I stream my runs on Twitch - see my profile and feel free to stop by! I'm not very skilled, but I am decent at planning / strategizing so we'll see where this takes me!

There were 5 NSM contests that I personally oversaw on ZD with the following dates, times and winners:

  1. Metroid by Blazemore in 00:42:50 on May 8, 1999
  2. Castlevania 2 by Chris Sande in 00:47:56 on June 30, 1999
  3. Ghosts 'n' Goblins (1 cycle, $50 prize) by Alfred Monico on August 9, 1999 - unknown time at moment, will need to view the NSM with the right version of NESticle
  4. Faxanadu ($75 prize) by Bors in 01:01:15 on October 9, 1999 - NESticle 0.42 required
  5. Solstice ($75 prize) by Dalamar in 00:09:45 on February 5, 2000

I do have all of the NSMs still, but need to match them up with the right version of NESticle.

And here we are almost 25 years later and I finally decided to try my own hand at speedrunning. ;)

So...it does not appear that one exists. Therefore, we created a discord channel within my server! Mecha and I are there frequently discussing strats - feel free to join us. :)

100% agreed with mecha.

My observation seems to be it doesn't matter in terms of the rules (I don't see any defined rules, in fact), but perhaps there's one seed that's more optimal from another in terms of where dungeons/items are located... but I've no idea which one that might be at this point.

Hey friends,

Let me start off by saying that I'm totally not a speedrunner, but I'm throwing my hat in because this was one of my favorite guilty pleasures in 1995 as a 15 year old and.. I'm bored and want to give it a go to challenge myself. ;) Would like to know if there's anywhere, discord or otherwise, where anyone gathers to discuss Strats for this games?
